"What an incredible tool! Since Buckhead Church moved into the renovated Harris Teeter on Easter Sunday 2003, our video pastor, Andy Stanley, has been played from two tape decks: a HiDef source for a stage-wide shot on the center screen, and a StandardDef source for a tight shot on the side screens. It's an incredible way of keeping the audience connected as there is the appearance of someone standing on stage, props and all, while the tight shots, notes and graphics are displayed on the side screens.

But time has proven challenging as the tape heads get worn and dirtied, tapes are mistakenly miscued and other human errors occur. About three months ago we were having random digital dropout occur from the HiDef tape deck. Cleaning the heads and the tape path didn't help. We borrowed a newer deck from North Point Community Church (NPCC) and had the same random problems. It left us feeling a bit vulnerable as a video church when two tape decks appeared to have the same problem. We thought it may have been a problem with the tapes, but the problem was random and couldn't be reproduced in the tape decks at NPCC.

Then I heard about PVS [ProVideoSync]. We got the software as soon as possible and have been using it, error free, for a little over a month now. It utilizes the same sources, but all played from a computer with DVCProHD as center-screen wide shot and DV as side-screen tight shots. And there is much more flexibility built into PVS. If tapes are improperly cued, they cannot be adjusted until the service is over, but with PVS the videos can be frame-adjusted during playback for on-the-fly syncing if a frame is dropped or if the videos are improperly cued. From a stewardship standpoint, the hardware and PVS combined are about 1/10th the cost of a HD and SD tape deck. It's a win-win situation with an excellent product in PVS and excellent response and support from the team at Renewed Vision."
